Applications like Instapaper and Pocket are fantastic, both as libraries of content but as anti-distraction mechanisms, collecting content for later. I have been using applications like this for a very long time and needless to say I have built up quite a backlog, the oldest unread article dates back to mid-2014. Recently I have put an effort into catching up on this backlog and it has made me realize how much fantastic content is buried in the archives.

So in an effort to bring to light forgotten gems I am starting a weekly blog series called HN5F5 or Hacker News Five from Five. This will be a curated list of five of the top posts on Hacker News from five years ago. The selected posts will focus on the work of programmers, technical or non-technical with a preference for personal programming blogs.
